The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding employers and employees that the province's minimum wage will increase to $11.32 as of Tuesday, Oct. 1

This is the 11th such increase since 2007. Back then, the minimum wage was just $7.95.

Despite the increase, Saskatchewan still has the lowest minimum wage in the country. More information about minimum wage rates in Canada is available through the Retail Council of Canada's website.

“Our government continues to introduce minimum wages that are sustainable and predictable,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said in a press release. “Since 2007 our government has increased the minimum wage by more than 40 per cent. We have also taken approximately 112,000 Saskatchewan residents off the provincial income tax roll, to help families keep more of their pay cheques in their pockets.”

Every year Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is calculated using an indexation formula. It gives equal weight to changes to the Consumer Price Index and Average Hourly Wage for Saskatchewan.

Increases are announced by June 30 and take effect on Oct. 1 of each year.
