Moose Jaw’s Bohlken to play in Hockey Canada Summer Showcase

University of Saskatchewan standout to play for USports All-Stars in National Women’s Development Team Selection Camp
After an impressive campaign in her fourth season with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, Moose Jaw’s Leah Bohlken is about to have a chance take the ice with some of the best up-and-coming players in Canada.

A list that most certainly includes herself.

Bohlken, 21, will suit up for the USports All-Stars in the National Women’s Development Team Selection camp, an event that will help Hockey Canada choose the roster for a three-game set with the United States at the end of the month.

The fifth-year defenceman led the Huskies in scoring last season, scoring nine goals and 16 points in 27 games. That total was second among defenceman and 11th overall in Canada West, earning her a first-team all-star selection for the season. She also suited up for Team Canada at the World Universaide, winning the silver medal.

The Development Team Selection Camp runs from Aug. 2 to 11, with tournament games beginning Aug. 5. Five teams will take part in the event, including 45 of the top development players from throughout the country broken into two teams. The tournament will also feature the national teams from France and Japan.

Tournament play begins Monday, with USports’ contest taking place on Tuesday against Japan, Wednesday against France, Thursday against Canada Gold, Friday against Canada Red and Saturday against Japan.
