Public health has confirmed that a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the SARCAN recycling depot in Moose Jaw, effectively closing the location’s doors for the time being.
Moose Jaw SARCAN was first closed to the public on April 24 and 26, sharing over social media that the closure was "due to staffing constraints.” On April 27, an announcement was made that the location would be closed until further notice, including the Drop n' Go service.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed that an outbreak at the facility was declared on April 26. According to officials, an outbreak is confirmed when two or more individuals who are linked to a public setting or event test positive for COVID-19.
The Moose Jaw Express reached out to SARCAN Recycling for comments, but representatives were unavailable as of press time.
It is currently unknown if there is a risk of public exposure, but a contact tracing investigation from public health is underway.
