MOOSE JAW - Sherri Wedel was going about her usual morning routine when she discovered she won $100,000 on the Extra she added to her ticket for the Dec. 28 Western 649 draw.

Wedel discovered her win the morning after the draw.

“I get my coffee and I check my tickets using my phone to scan them,” Wedel explained.

“Then I double-check them,” she said, noting that she didn’t expect that morning would be one where she wound up with a $100,000 windfall.

“You never think you’re going to win but you hope you do,” Wedel said. “And it’s a thrill when you actually do win.”

Wedel said she told the news to her sister and a few friends first.

“I screenshotted it and sent a happy dance to them, but I don’t think they believed me,” she laughed. “But I thought it was hilarious. I was elated!”

The Moose Jaw resident has a couple of ideas in mind for her windfall.

“I’m getting a new car and I’ll probably invest the rest,” Wedel said.

The happy winner purchased her ticket from 7-Eleven at 20 Caribou St. W in Moose Jaw the day before the draw. She won by matching the last six digits of the winning EXTRA number – 3138979. And she also won $3 by matching two numbers and the bonus on the WESTERN 649 draw.
