The Moose Jaw Blackhawks have another Under-11 hockey tournament championship under their belt.
Playing in a nine-team event in Medicine Hat during the Jan. 22 weekend, the Blackhawks lost their opening round robin game but would go on a winning run the rest of the way, picking up their fourth championship of the season.
The Blackhawks opened the competition on Jan. 21 with a 6-4 loss to the Bow River Bruins, in what would be their lone setback for the weekend.
Things really got rolling when they hit the ice for their first game on Jan. 22, where they rolled to a 17-0 win over the Medicine Hat North Stars and promptly followed with a 14-1 victory over the Medicine Hat Knights.
Moose Jaw closed out their round robin by defeating the Medicine Hat Kings 7-0, capping the preliminary portion of the event with a 3-1 record and booking a spot in the next day’s championship final.
There, the Blackhawks capped their stellar showing with a 5-3 victory cover the Cochrane Rockies.
The Blackhawks were coming off similar success the weekend prior, where they took first place in the Moose Jaw AtoMc tournament, marking the first title win for a local team at the event in five years.
