The Moose Jaw Police Service has been asked by the Saskatchewan RCMP to review an incident that occurred in the community of La Loche earlier this year.

On Jan. 2 an adult male suffered a broken leg during an arrest in La Loche.  On Jan. 5 the injured male made a public complaint against the arresting officer.

This complaint was immediately investigated. It was determined that the level of force was acceptable, given the circumstances of the arrest.

As per normal RCMP procedure, the public complaint investigation was further reviewed to ensure all policies and procedures were followed. This review determined that due to the level of injury to the male, the incident should be investigated by an external police agency.

Saskatchewan RCMP then requested that the Moose Jaw Police Service review the incident in its entirety.

The MJPS agreed to conduct the investigation on Aug. 12. Further details have not been released.
