Miller Express break out big bats in Swift Current

Timely offence proves key as Moose Jaw takes 10-2 victory over 57’s
So far, so good for the Moose Jaw Miller Express

The Express broke open a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fifth and held the Swift Current 57’s scoreless the rest of the way on their way to a 10-2 victory in Western Canadian Major Baseball League action in Swift Current on Thursday.

Moose Jaw improved to 2-0 after a 6-5 win over Melville in their home opener a night earlier.

In Swift Current, right fielder Michael Borst went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three runs batted in while clean-up hitter Darrell Doll was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Georgie McDougall continued his solid start to the season by crossing the plate twice; Isaiah Arroyo knocked in a pair of runs.

Matt Jackson got the start on the mound and was solid through four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out three and walking three. Nick Portillo came on in relief and was just as effective, going four innings himself and allowing on three hits while holding the 57’s scoreless.

Jaden Hofman tossed the final frame and gave up one hit while striking out the side.

The Express are back in action Friday night with a rematch with Swift Current at Ross Wells Park (7 p.m.) before  two game weekend set at home against the Yorkton Cardinals, with Sunday’s contest set for 4 p.m.
