Mac’s rack is coming back in early October

More than 70 per cent of the materials used to rebuild Mac's rack have been donated from the community

Get ready Moose Javians, Mac the Moose’s massive rack is coming back to help the critter reclaim his crown as the world’s tallest moose statue.

More than four months after Mac shed his antlers for the first time, his new pair of bony horns will soon sprout again from his head. How soon, you ask?

Installation happens on Thursday, Oct. 10, Jacki L’Heureux-Mason, executive director of Tourism Moose Jaw, told city council during its Sept. 23 regular meeting.

“This is something we’ve been waiting for,” she exclaimed. “We’ve had calls the last two weeks solid asking, ‘When is this happening, when is this happening.’”

Since this is the first time the contractor has installed antlers on Mac, it’s likely going to take 10 hours from start to finish to complete this project, L’Heureux-Mason continued.

What’s positive about this project is 70 per cent of the working materials were donated.

Meanwhile, Tourism Moose Jaw is inviting residents to come for a barbecue at the office starting at 11 a.m. This will also act as a home renovation-style reveal.

“Everybody agreed that it would be great to celebrate that with the community. We have a couple of organizations that are going to help us out. We’ll have able to show off Mac’s new rack,” L’Heureux-Mason added with a smile.

The next regular council meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 15.
