Local business admits responsibility for Hillcrest Golf Course accident

South Country Equipment releases statement over oil leak

Here's the full statement from South Country Equipment over the Hillcrest Golf Course oil spill:

South Country Equipment takes full responsibility for an oil leak that has impacted the Hillcrest Golf Course in Moose Jaw.

On the night of July 16, 1,000 litres of unused 15W 40 motor oil was accidentally punctured and a significant amount of the oil flowed into a storm drain on our property. Unfortunately, some of that oil then travelled down to the Hillcrest Golf Course, triggering a concerted clean up effort by the City of Moose Jaw and Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, not to mention disruption to operations of the Hillcrest.

“South Country Equipment takes this incident very seriously,” stated Manager of Human Resources Drew Watson. “This was an unfortunate accident and we will be reviewing our procedures to identify ways to avoid similar mistakes in the future. Immediate steps have already been taken to ensure this does not happen again at any of our locations, including Moose Jaw.”

“We are grateful for the quick response by the City of Moose Jaw and efforts by the City and Ministry of Environment to contain the oil and prevent more serious consequences. We also apologize to the Hillcrest Golf Course for the disruption this event has caused.”

South Country Equipment assumes all responsibility, including costs, associated with the leak and the subsequent cleanup and remediation efforts.
