A series of untimely errors in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Assiniboia Aces picked up a 12-8 victory over the Moose Jaw Canucks in Baseball Regina 15-and-under AAA action in Assiniboia on Thursday night.

The contest sat tied 8-8 heading into the Aces’ half of the sixth, and after the Assiniboia offence managed to get a couple of baserunners in play, the Canucks suddenly came apart in the field. Moose Jaw would make three straight errors, allowing the Aces to send four runs across the plate and take their 12-8 lead.

The Canucks committed a total of seven errors in the contest.

Things looked good for Moose Jaw early, as a three-run first and pair of runs in the second would stake them to a 5-4 lead. The Aces went ahead by one with a pair in the third, but the Canucks put up another three-spot in the fifth to go ahead by a two. Assiniboia got both those back in their half of the inning, though, setting up the dramatic sixth.

Nathan Pisio led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. Javin Boynton and Cooper Gregor scored a run each, Max Simmons was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Simmons took the worst of the defensive lapse on the mound, pitching the final two innings and giving up a single earned run out of six scored, scattering four hits and striking out four.

Gerritt Gulutzan got the start and allowed four runs, three earned, in two innings work; Owen Varjassy pitched the middle innings and saw two unearned runs score on two hits and two walks.

The Canucks are back in action on Wednesday, June 16 when they host the Regina White Sox. Game time is 6 p.m. at Swarbrick.
