Five-run third inning leads to Heat win over Ice in senior ladies fastball

Heat hold U19 squad to single run through five on way to 9-4 victory
A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as the Heat battled to a 9-4 win over the U19 Ice in Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball League action on Wednesday night.

Things were especially close through the first two innings, as Vanessa Knox lead off the game and scored the first run for the Ice and K.C. Power came around to score in the opening inning for the Heat, creating a 1-1 draw that would last until the third.

There, the first six Heat batters would reach base, with five of those coming around to score before the Ice would record their first out. They’d tack on another run in the fourth to make it 7-1 and two more in the fifth to build a commanding 9-1 lead.

The Ice would get three back in the sixth, with Maddie Sills, Maddie Thul and Rainy Volk all coming around to score, but that would be as close as they’d get.

Ali Kowalenko reached base three times for the Heat, scoring a pair of runs, while Power and Janelle Loveridge also scored a run and reached twice for the victors.

League action continues Thursday night as the Colts take on Assiniboia and the Ice battle the Hustlers.
