MOOSE JAW — Music enthusiasts are in for a treat tonight as the Moose Jaw Adult Concert Band is set to take the stage at A.E. Peacock Collegiate’s Centennial Auditorium for its highly anticipated spring concert.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. tonight – Friday, June 7 – and features the performance of around 30 musicians across various backgrounds who have dedicated time to practicing every Thursday evening since Feb. 1.

Tonight’s concert will feature a variety of music ranging from a traditional march to lyrical pieces, and even a song or two from the latest Star Wars movies.

Kurt Gillet, one of the band’s organizers responsible for finances and venue planning, said this year’s performance will showcase a few solo performances including a flute solo and a couple percussion instruments in one or two of the pieces.

All guests are also invited to register for the upcoming Band Boosters program, which Gillet said is expected to commence early this fall.

“We’re done meeting for the year, but we’re going to meet again in the fall,” he said. “We’re just looking for anyone that’s interested in helping out with some band events and fundraising to support band students and working together with community groups (in this capacity).”

Tonight’s performance promises to deliver an impressive display of local talent.

“We have some amazing musicians in Moose Jaw that are just waiting to be able to display that talent,” Gillet said. “Part of the reason we started this band in the first place was because we knew what kind of talent we had just sitting around and wishing to play in a band again.

“We’re all just... coming together and sharing that love of music, and the talent is amazing. I think people will be surprised.”

Tickets are going for $15 apiece and Gillet said there are three ways you can purchase your own. You can stop by the Moose Jaw Events Centre and purchase them in person at the box office, online at SaskTix.ca, or in person at the door when you arrive.

If you choose to purchase your tickets at the door to the auditorium, Gillet is advising that these tickets will be sold on a cash-only basis.

All proceeds will be used to support the ongoing expenses incurred by the band so it can continue playing for the community.

More information can be found on the Facebook page, ‘The Moose Jaw Adult Concert Band.’ Gillett said the page usually has the most important updates and forms an official channel to share other information and keep in touch.

Peacock’s Centennial Auditorium is located at 145 Ross Street East and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
