Looking to make your property more attractive? Want to help the city expand its urban forest? Homeowners in select areas of the city still have a chance
to add some trees to their property, but the deadline for applications is fast approaching.

Next Monday, Feb. 11 is the deadline for property owners in West Park, Westheath, and Iron Bridge to apply for two free trees from the City of Moose Jaw.

There are over a dozen tree types to choose from, including Manitoba maple, elm, alder, and spring snow crabapple. Homeowners can view the entire list of trees online, along with the application pamphlet. Application pamphlets are also available at City Hall.

"Trees provide many benefits, such as reduced energy costs, increased property values, cleaner air, and better overall health," said Sarah Regent, parks gardener for the City of Moose Jaw in a press release. "As the City grows, this is an opportunity to expand our urban forest and continue to enjoy these benefits."

Trees will arrive in late August or early September.

"Early fall is an excellent time to plant trees, with the cooler weather helping reduce transplant shock," added Regent.

Those who order trees will be contacted with pick-up dates and will be given instructions for the planting and care of new trees. Property owners are responsible for the trees for the first three years. This includes the planting, water, and general care of the tree. After three years the city will then assume responsbility for the maintenance of the trees.
