The provincial government continues to fight back against the federal carbon tax.
The Supreme Court of Canada has notified the Government of Saskatchewan that its challenge of the carbon tax has been tentatively scheduled for Dec. 5.
Back in May, the government stated its intent to appeal the case to the Supreme Court after the 3-2 split decision from the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
“While our government was disappointed with the split decision from the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, we believe that the federal government has violated the constitutional jurisdiction of the provinces through the imposition of the federal carbon tax,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said in a press release.
“Our government looks forward to standing up for the hardworking people of Saskatchewan against the frivolous and ineffective carbon tax in the Supreme Court of Canada on December 5.”
The province is busy preparing its case; the factum is being developed by the Constitutional Law Branch and will be submitted to the Supreme Court by July 26.
