Car accident leads to charges

One woman is facing charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident.

On the morning of Oct. 13 police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the 900 block of Second Ave. N.W., where a car had struck a parked truck.

Police say the driver left the scene of the accident on foot but was later captured.

According to police, the driver, a 21-year-old woman, was impaired by alcohol and drugs and had a blood alcohol content over the legal limit of 0.08.

She was released from custody and will appear in court on Oct. 28. She will face two criminal code charges, including:

  • Operating a conveyance while the ability to operate it is impaired to any degree by alcohol or a drug or by combination of alcohol and a drug, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the criminal code;
  • Have a blood concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood within two hours after ceasing to operate a conveyance, contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the criminal code.

The woman’s name has not been released.
