The regular season is in the books, and now the games that really matter are set to the take the field in the Baseball Regina AAA leagues.

Both the Moose Jaw 13-and-under and 15-and-under Canucks will be in action as they look to follow up on the success of their AA counterparts last weekend —where the 11U Canucks defeated the Prairie Dogs in the gold medal final and 13U Canucks reached the title game before falling to Lumsden.

The 13U AAAs will head into the event as one of the pre-tournament favourites, having held down first place much of the season and finishing with a 13-6-1 record before being overhauled for top spot on the final weekend by the White Butte Broncos.

As a result, the Canucks will take on the 10-10-0 Regina Buffalos on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Andrie Diamond in Parkhill Park, with the winner advancing to the title game on Sunday at the home of the higher seed. The Broncos will face the winner of the quarter-final between the Regina White Sox and Regina Pacers on Saturday morning.

The Canucks didn’t have the best of early results against the Buffalos, falling 14-9 in their season opener back on July 9 and 9-5 on July 30, but when the calendar turned over the results went with them — a 12-11 win in Regina on Aug. 11 and 11-0 victory in their most recent meeting on Sept. 3.

The 15U AAAs will have a bit of work ahead of them after finishing with a 5-16-1 record, and they’ll take on the Regina Pacers (13-8-1) in their quarter-final. The winner of that contest advances to the semifinal against the East Central Mils (19-3-0) in Balcarres on Saturday afternoon, with the championship final taking place on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the home of the highest remaining seed.

The Regina White Sox will take on the Regina Buffalos in the other semifinal.

The Canucks split a doubleheader with the Pacers to open the season on July 11, winning 5-4 and falling 11-7 before dropping a 12-0 decision on July 28 and losing another close contest 8-6 on Aug. 15.
