Bushell Park’s Nord finishes 30th in final individual race at Canada Winter Games

Relays on tap for local competitor as first week of Games nears completion

Bushell Park’s Kaycee Nord has competed in her final individual race in biathlon at the Canada Winter Games in P.E.I. and will next be aiming to help Team Saskatchewan win a relay medal.

The 17-year-old Peacock student finished 30th overall in a time of 55 minutes, 36.2 seconds in the female 10-kilometre race on Thursday morning, with her showing coming on the heels of crossing the line in 28th place in the six-km sprint on Monday and 29th in the 7.5 km pursuit on Tuesday.

Prudhomme’s Rhiann Arnold had the top Saskatchewan finish in the 10 km race, finishing in 41:03.8 to land in fourth place, 46 seconds out of a medal. Athletes from B.C. swept the podium, with each competitor finishing under 41 minutes..

Next is the single mixed relay on Friday, followed by the mixed relay on Saturday as the final race of the Games at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park.

Team Saskatchewan is currently in sixth place in the medal standings with five silver and four bronze for nine medals total. B.C. leads the way with 13 goals, six silver and 14 bronze.

Moose Jaw athletes are in action in earnest in week two of the Games, with Avery Gibney and Paxton Nelson competing in judo, Eric Swalm and Rowan Gray in figure skating and Brooklyn Nimegeers in female hockey.
