Resident Michael Anthony Tufano made his first appearance in court on April 1 after being charged in connection with the death of a man on Stadacona Street West.

Tufano, 28, appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court wearing a black bunnyhug. The Crown opposed his release, so he will remain in custody until his bail hearing on April 7.

Court documents show that Tufano is charged with two weapons offences, breaching probation and manslaughter with a firearm.

According to previous information, police and EMS responded to an incident on March 30 around 2:30 a.m. at a residence in the 0 block of Stadacona Street West. They discovered the body of a man whom they pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement’s initial investigation determined the death was suspicious.

On April 1, the Moose Jaw Police Service announced more information about the situation. Police said the death of the 25-year-old male was a homicide after he was found with a gunshot wound at the apartment building. Officers arrested and charged two people with manslaughter, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of court orders.

Tufano appeared on April 1, while a 25-year-old female —arrested on March 31 — was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Monday, April 4.

“The investigation also led to the recovery of the firearm used in the offence. The deceased and the two charged (persons) were all known to each other,” police said. “This incident is not gang-related.”

Police say they will release more information once it becomes available. Anyone with information should call the Moose Jaw Police Service at 306-694-7600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
