April construction values nearly double last year’s volume

Building permit values in April this year were almost double the same month last year.

City hall issued 14 permits valued at $1.3 million in April, 2020 with 15 permits worth $554,00 last April.

Commercial permits included $116,000 in renovations at 240 High Street West, the former Willow Tree Collections; $120,000 retail alterations to a house at 340 High Street West; and $90,000 new retail construction at 334 High Street West.

New commercial construction of $100,000 developed a restaurant at 4 Hochelaga Street West, former site of Rogers Cellular.

Two new single-family houses worth $479,000 were permitted, compared with none last April.

To April 30, permits include four new houses worth $1.05 million, compared with 11 worth 43.7 million last year.

Building permit values for the first four months of 2020 were almost $3.8 million, less than half the $7.15 million last year.
