AAA Warriors keep pace in first place with win over Legionnaires

Wourms-Rowe scores twice in 6-2 Moose Jaw win in Swift Current
The Moose Jaw Warriors continued their impressive run in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with a 6-3 win over the Swift Current Legionnaires on Tuesday night.

The victory was the seventh straight for the Warriors as they improved to 17-6-1-0 on the season, good enough for a share of first place in the 12-team league with 35 points, tied with the Saskatoon Contacts and one point up on the Regina Pat Canadians.

The contest also marked the first win over the Legionnaires for the Warriors this season after dropping their previous two meetings at home to their Trans-Canada rivals.

On Tuesday, the Warriors wasted little time getting off to a fast start, as Kirk Mullen scored on the power play 2:21 into the game before Max Wanner and Ben Wourms-Rowe made it 3-0 with 4:40 to play in the first period.

Atley Calvert extended the lead to 4-1 only 3:05 into the second, with Kyle Forster and Wourms-Rowe adding insurance goals to close out scoring in the third.

Dylan Ernst got the start in net and made 25 saves, the Warriors fired 28 shots at Swift Current’s Justin Dueck.

Spencer Bell scored both Legionnaires goals.

The Warriors are back in action this weekend for a two-game set in Yorkton against the Maulers.

Next home action is Dec. 12 when they host the Notre Dame Hounds.
