Budget25: During a 2025 budget meeting, city council approved giving most third-party groups the funding they had requested in November.

Derek Blais, director of community services, issued a letter saying the City of Moose Jaw was committed to providing “safe, clean and welcoming recreational facilities” for residents.

“Lots of (these newcomers), when they first come… the only thing they come with is the clothes on their backs,” Bjelde said, noting that it typically takes around one month before they receive their first financial support from the government.

Budget25: The Moose Jaw Police Service and the Moose Jaw Public Library had their 2025 budgets approved by city council during a recent budget discussion meeting.

The police board held a special meeting on Jan. 31 to officially appoint Johns as acting chief as of Saturday, Feb. 1, after Chief Rick Bourassa retired earlier than expected because of an injury.

“I think anyone who wants to try it should feel free to reach out,” she added. “There are clubs in Moose Jaw and Regina, and anywhere that works for you. We’re always looking to grow our (club).”

Saundra Arberry summarized the complaint she received about bylaws related to the joint-use school situation.

“(Participants) will learn to cook a meal and they get to take that home for supper, so it kind of lands at the perfect time,” she added, noting that parents also benefit from a free dinner afterwards.

Michael Vernon, 50, lives with PTSD and post-concussion syndrome, and has owned Maverick, a Doberman pincher, for the past six years. The dog has been his psychiatrist-approved support animal since June 2024.
