The number of cases in the province's southwest and west-central areas continues to rise, as the province is reporting 42 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 for July 16.
That is the largest one-day increase in cases since the start of the pandemic.
Thirty-one of the new cases are in the South region, six are in the Central region, four are in Saskatoon, and one is in the North.
There are now 923 reported cases in Saskatchewan. Currently, there are 114 active cases, with 49 active cases in the South.
Hospitalizations are also on the rise, with 11 people now receiving treatment. Nine people are receiving inpatient care — seven in Saskatoon, one in the South and one in the North. Two are in intensive care — one in Saskatoon and one in the South.
Three more people have recovered, increasing the number of the recoveries in the province to 794.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority says that there is "rising level of transmission within communities and communal living venues" in the southwest and west-central areas, although there are other, unrelated cases as well. Due to the increased risk for COVID-19 tranmission, visitation at Cypress Regional Hospital, long-term care homes, and personal care homes in the area will be temporarily restricted.
Of the 923 cases in the province:
- 180 cases are travellers;
- 504 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
- 134 have no known exposures; and
- 105 are under investigation by local public health.
On a regional level, 339 of the cases are from the Far North, 204 are from the Saskatoon area, 121 from the North, 115 from the South, 85 from the Regina area, and 59 from the Central region.
Fifteen deaths have been reported to date.
A total of 78,851 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan.
