274 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths reported

Eleven residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One new death in the age group 60-69 was reported in the North East, one new death in the age group 50-59 was reported in Saskatoon, three new deaths in the 80-plus age group were reported in Saskatoon, four new deaths in the 80-plus age group were reported in Regina, as well as one new death in the 70-79 group and one new death in the 80-plus group were reported in the South East.

That is the largest one-day increase in the number of COVID-19 deaths in Saskatchewan since the pandemic began. That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 86.

There are 274 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan, as of Dec. 12, 2020.

The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (78), Regina (57), North West (43), North Central (23), Far North East (19), Central East (13), South Central (12), South East (10), Far North West (8), North East (5), Central West (2), and  South West (2) zones.

Ten of the new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Two new cases have pending residence information.

Two previously reported cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Far North East (from Dec. 9) and North Central (from Dec.8) zones.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 292 (24.1 new cases per 100,000 population).

There are now 11,749 reported cases, including 4,097 active cases.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority believes the number of cases designated as “active” will decline as older cases are reviewed and potentially shifted to recovered status. The SHA says this work is ongoing.

One hundred and eighteen people are in hospital. Ninety-five people are receiving inpatient care — 41 in Saskatoon, 25 in Regina, 11 in the North Central,  seven in the North West, six in the South East, two in the Central East, two in the South Central, and one in the Far North West. Twenty-three people are in intensive care — nine in Regina, seven in Saskatoon, six in the North Central, and one in the South West.

Seven hundred and thirteen more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 7,566 recoveries.

Of the 11,749 cases in the province:

  • 539 cases are travelers;
  • 5,102 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
  • 2,740 have no known exposures; and
  • 3,368 are under investigation by local public health. 

On a regional level:

  • 3,514 cases are from the Saskatoon area;
  • 2,489 cases are from the north area (924 north west, 1,189 north central, 376 north east);
  • 2,337 cases are from the Regina area;
  • 1,395 cases are from the south area (536 south west, 478 south central, 381 south east);
  • 1,237 cases are from the far north area (754 far north west, 89 far north central, 394 far north east);
  • 745 cases are from the central area (314 central west, 431 central east); and
  • 32 cases have pending residence information.

A total of 383,000 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, 3,622 COVID-19 tests were processed in Saskatchewan.
