238 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths reported

Seven residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One new death in the 40 to 49 age group was reported in the South East zone. One new death in the 60 to 69 age group was reported in the North Central zone. Five new deaths in the 80-plus age group were reported in the Regina (3) Saskatoon (1), and South West (1) zones. That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 105.

There are 238 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan, as of Dec. 17, 2020.

The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (81), Regina (40), North Central (32), North West (26), Far North East (15), North East (9), Central East (7), South Central (7), Far North West (5), South West (3), South East (3), and Far North Central (1) zones.

Five of the new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Nine new cases have pending residence information.

Five previously reported cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the North Central (3), Far North Central (1), and Far North East (1).

There are now 12,832 reported cases, including 3,978 active cases.  

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 230 (19 new cases per 100,000 population).

One hundred and twenty-six people are in hospital. One hundred and four people are receiving inpatient care — 44 in Saskatoon, 23 in Regina, 16 in the North Central, nine in the North West, five in the South East, three in the Far North West, two in the Central East, one in the Central West, and one in the South Central. Twenty-two people are in intensive care — nine in Saskatoon, eight in Regina, and five in the North Central.

Four hundred and sixty-six more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 8,749 recoveries.

Of the 12,832 cases in the province:

  • 571 cases are travelers;
  • 6,117 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
  • 2,885 have no known exposures; and
  • 3,259 are under investigation by local public health. 

On a regional level:

  • 3,790 cases are from the Saskatoon area;
  • 2,836 cases are from the north area (1085 north west, 1,339 north central, 412 north east);
  • 2,564 cases are from the Regina area;
  • 1,457 cases are from the south area (545 south west, 503 south central, 409 south east);
  • 1,353 cases are from the far north area (798 far north west, 97 far north central, 458 far north east);
  • 788 cases are from the central area (320 central west, 468 central east); and
  • 44 cases have pending residence information.

A total of 396,555 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, 2,875 COVID-19 tests were processed.
