169 new COVID-19 cases, 154 recoveries

There are 169 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan, as of Dec. 16, 2020.

The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (38), North West (35), Regina (30), North Central (28), Far North East (13), Far North West (3), Far North Central (2), North East (2), Central East (2), South Central (2), Central West (1), South West (1), and South East (1) zones.

Both of the new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Eleven new cases have pending residence information.

Four previously reported cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the North West (2), North Central (1), and Regina (1).

Seven previously reported cases were deemed to be out-of-province residents and removed from the case counts for the North West (1), Central East (1), South West (1), South East (1), as well as three from the pending residence category.

There are now 12,594 reported cases, including 4,213 cases.  

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 243 (20.1 new cases per 100,000 population).

One hundred and twenty-four people are in hospital. Ninety-four people are receiving inpatient care — 40 in Saskatoon, 28 in Regina, 10 in the North Central, eight in the North West, three in the South East, two in the Far North West, two in the Central East, and one in the South Central. Thirty people are in intensive care — 12 in Regina, 10 in Saskatoon, six in the North Central, one in the North West, and one in the South West.

One hundred and fifty-four more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 8,283 recoveries.

Of the 12,594 cases in the province:

  • 562 cases are travelers;
  • 5,878 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
  • 2,827 have no known exposures; and
  • 3,327 are under investigation by local public health. 

On a regional level: 

  • 3,709 cases are from the Saskatoon area;
  • 2,766 cases are from the north area (1059 north west, 1,304 north central, 403 north east);
  • 2,524 cases are from the Regina area;
  • 1,444 cases are from the south area (542 south west, 496 south central, 406 south east);
  • 1,330 cases are from the far north area (793 far north west, 95 far north central, 442 far north east);
  • 781 cases are from the central area (320 central west, 461 central east); and
  • 40 cases have pending residence information.

Ninety-eight deaths have been reported to date. 

A total of 393,680 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, 2,270 COVID-19 tests were processed.
