Three weeks into October Saskatchewan farmers still had almost one-fifth of the crop left out in the field.

Harvest operations managed to pull completion from two-thirds to 83 per cent in the week ended Oct. 21, according to the Saskatchewan Agriculture weekly crop report.

Usually 93 per cent of the crop is in the bin by Oct 21.

Harvest in the Moose Jaw-Regina crop district was only 80 per cent done with 87 per cent in the Assiniboia/Gravelbourg district.

The district from Mossbank to Central Butte was only 71 per cent complete.

Harvest of many grains is 90 per cent or better complete.

Notable exceptions are canola, 21per cent left; soybeans and canary seed, 33 per cent; spring wheat, 26 per cent; durum 27 per cent; oats 18 per cent and flax, 55 per cent.

Lodging, wind and frost damage continued to cut yields and grades.
