August 2 is Food Day Canada, celebrating the people and places that help make the country's food system as strong and vibrant as it is.

The Province of Saskatchewan is joining other provinces in marking the occasion, which is now into its 22nd year.

In a release, Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison notes that there are many links in the food chain, saying "From producers and researchers to food companies and restaurants, they all have a role to play in delivering safe, sustainable and high-quality food to our tables."

The province provided some facts and figures in the release, noting that in 2024 alone, Saskatchewan exported $18.5 billion in agri-food products, while processing $7.9 billion in value-added products.

In Saskatchewan, the ag sector is responsible for around 10 per cent of the provincial economy, 41 per cent of our total annual exports, and almost 37-thousand jobs.

As well, the province continues to lend its support to programs such as 4-H Saskatchewan, Agriculture in the Classroom ad Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, as ways to help the public learn more about the world of agriculture, and how it connects to the food they eat every day.

If Saskatchewan residents would like to take part in Food Day Canada, they're invited to do so in a number of ways, including enjoying a meal at a local restaurant, trying out a new recipe, or by sharing food stories, pictures and videos online, using the hashtag "FoodDayCanada," and tagging @FoodDayCanada.
