A farmer north of Briercrest was combining a field of durum on Mother’s Day, driving carefully to try and get as much of the lodged crop as possible.
He was unable to take the field off last fall when weather forced Saskatchewan farmers to leave 2.5 million acres unharvested.
The combining had to wait until the soil was dry enough to support the weight of the machine.
A second combine was harvesting durum in the neighbouring field.
Most of the unharvested crop was in central and northern Saskatchewan but one farmer west of Moose Jaw had 4,000 acres of flax to harvest this spring.
About four million acres were left in the field across the West.
