YIP, Bing Fan

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, surrounded by his family, Bing passed away in peace and comfort at the age of 82 in London, Ontario.

Bing was born on December 1, 1941 in Toisan, Kwang Tung province, China. At age 13, he moved to Hong Kong and completed his Form 5 (High School Graduation) at Sung Chun College. In 1963, he and his mother immigrated to Canada where they were reunited with his grandfather, Tom Yip. Bing worked at his grandfather’s store, BC Fruits, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan until 1968, when he and other family members took over an existing dry cleaning business called Crescent Cleaners. Soon after, they started an ice cream store and confectionary in Moose Jaw called Snow Hut. The business flourished and eventually expanded to include a self-serve car wash and laundromat, and the store became a popular fixture in the community. In 2003, Snow Hut was sold to a new owner and Bing began his retirement, eventually moving to London, Ontario in 2005.

Bing was survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine, and their children Grace (Andrew), Paul (Mary) and William (Alana), grandchildren Zoë, Charlotte, Isla, and Felix, and his siblings Myrna (Gale), Barry (Ada), and May, and many beloved nephews, nieces and in-laws. He was predeceased by his brothers Bing See and Kai (Catherine, also deceased).

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, PSWs, and all the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice and Victoria Hospital (nephrology) for the excellent care he received. The family would also like to thank Dr. Louise Moist for her exemplary care and compassion while Bing was her patient.

A private memorial service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, with cremation to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
