Muriel Snell passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2002 at the age of 106 years and 8 months. She was born on August 12, 1915 in Wilcox, SK to Thomas and Sara Knox and grew up on a farm close to Grand Coulee. After graduating at age 15 from Central Collegiate high school in Regina, she then attended Normal School and obtained her Teaching Certificate. Muriel taught all the grades in country schools for five years. On July 3, 1940 she married the love of her life, Everett Snell. Muriel spent time in Prince Edward Island during the war years to be close to Everett who worked as a Radar Tech in Newfoundland as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. During this time, they had their first two children. After the war, Everett completed his Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of Saskatchewan before they moved to Moose Jaw in 1949 where they had three more children and lived for many years. In 1974, Muriel and Everett moved to Regina, where they enjoyed many family gatherings and trips abroad until Everett’s death in 1999. Her family was the center of her world and Muriel spent her lifetime caring about them. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed pleasing everyone with their favorite dishes. She loved words-both reading and writing- and later in life was prompted to write about her experiences through a course taught by her niece at the University of Regina. Muriel was a long time member in a variety of organizations such as United Church Women and Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Snell; brothers Owen, Hollis and Bruce; sister Agnes; and grandson Garret Snell. Muriel is survived by her children, Gary (Marilyn) Snell, Marilyn Traynor, John (Marily) Snell, Richard (Paulette) Snell, and Margaret (Jim) Meikle; grandchildren, Kevin (Ann) Snell, Judith, Rachael, Hannah; (Garret Snell)-Marcy and Hailey; Kristy (Etienne Lablanc) Snell- Eva and Adele: Jason Snell-Jaden: Graham (Jodi) Snell-Blake and Morgan: Trevor (Jaymi) Snell-Alessai and Brazillia; Jennifer Snell-Josh; Nicole(Stephen) Owen- Ari and Jemma; and Christopher (Jilly) Snell- Manicno and Khalessi; sisters, Joyce Wellings and Alma Medhurst; sister-in-law, Pearl Snell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
