Margaret Scott’s family is saddened to announce her passing on January 21, 2022, at the age of 89. She is survived by her daughter, Maryann Scott, son-in-law, Ken Glover, sister-in-law, Violet Clothier, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, her parents, and her sisters and brothers-in-law.

Margaret was born on January 8, 1933, to Joe and Isabel (Eva) Smith, who farmed near Wynyard SK. She enjoyed growing up with the many cats, dogs, horses, and other animals on the farm, as well as berry picking and socializing with the family’s many friends and relatives in the area.

A proud University of Saskatchewan alumna, Margaret received her B.Ed. in 1955, and moved to Moose Jaw that same year to take up her first teaching position at Central Collegiate. She moved to King George School after that first year and remained there for the rest of her 22-year teaching career. She taught grade 7 and 8 math and English, in the era when one learned to parse a sentence at the age of 13.

Margaret joined St. Andrew’s United Church choir soon after she moved to Moose Jaw; this proved to be a significant event in her life. Not only did she remain with the choir for the next 60+ years, having many adventures and establishing lasting friendships, she also met James Scott, whom she married on July 13, 1963. She and Jim travelled widely in Canada throughout their marriage and were even brave enough to embark on many road trips with a child and a cat.

After resigning from teaching, Margaret remained busy – chaperoning Maryann’s school and band trips, cooking, baking, and always learning something new. She kept current on world events and politics; CBC radio was a constant companion during the day. Margaret was multi-talented; she sewed beautiful outfits for herself and Maryann (occasionally Jim) and at various times immersed herself in crochet, needlepoint, macrame, and stuffed animal making. Her chocolate cakes were the stuff of legends.

A few years after Jim’s death in 2011, Margaret moved to Terrance East Condos, and very much enjoyed living downtown and meeting new neighbours. She had just moved to West Park Crossing before her passing.

Maryann and Ken would like to thank Margaret’s friends at St. Andrew’s and Terrace East, Sharon Weeks (pet-sitter and friend extraordinaire), and the Surgery and ICU staff at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.

The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Jim Tenford on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Jones-Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W., Moose Jaw, SK.
