It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mark Wilhem Sagal on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023. After a courageous battle with cancer, Mark was welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Mark had a deep and abiding love for his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. His faith for Jesus was steadfast and Mark was passionate about sharing his faith with his family and friends.
Mark was born on September 27th, 1946, in Moose Jaw, SK to Dot and Bill Sagal. He grew up in the community of Marquis, SK and was the oldest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents, Dot and Bill Sagal; and sisters, Gail Forster and Val Bates (Doug). Mark is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Nancy; daughter, Lisa Pare; son, Darren Sagal; sister, Angela (Rob) Staniowski; stepdaughters: Lauren Froehlich, Leah Pearce (Jonathan) and granddaughter Kayleigh, and Katie Deneiko (Dannis) and grandson Isaac.
Mark loved his family deeply and spent many happy times over the years enjoying their company. He enjoyed a successful career with CP Rail for 35 years, starting in Moose Jaw as a train dispatcher, then to Saskatoon. Next was Montreal, QC as a Systems Operation Manager, and later to Winnipeg, MB as Supervisor of Rules Instruction. In Calgary, AB Mark was a Rail Traffic Control Manager at the Network Management Centre. Following this, in Vancouver, BC he worked as a Crisis Manager Consultant, working for BC Rail. After retiring from CP Rail, Mark became a railway consultant – rules, training and certification for Omnitracks, a short line railway, and then with Hudson Bay Rail. Mark loved his work and put his whole heart into doing his job well.
Mark was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He loved the outdoors. He loved hunting big game, as well as goose hunting, and spent countless hours with his buddies and Nancy out in the hills looking for the “big one”. Mark and Nancy loved hunting and camping together and spent many happy times at Rowan’s Ravine, a favourite camping spot.
As a family we would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for the kind and compassionate care that Mark received. A special thank you to Dr. Volker Rininsland for the special care and kindness he gave to Mark and Nancy.
A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held on Friday, January 12th, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main St. N, Moose Jaw, SK. Pastor Steve Atkins will officiate, and a private family burial will be held at Marquis Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Mark’s name may be made to Teen Challenge Canada, 12-2155 Airport Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6M5.
