Robert Allan Rust
Feb 13, 1944-Sept 2, 2023

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Robert “Bob” Rust on September 2, 2023. Born in Trail BC he was raised in Assiniboia Sask. He married Marcella Charles Nov 16, 1963

Robert and Marcella (Marcy) met when she took a waitressing job in Assiniboia for the summer of 1961 and Bob was working in the Assiniboia area. Marcy returned to Coronach to complete school, so Bob hitchhiked to Coronach every time he could to visit her until he found a job in the Coronach area. They married in 1963 and Bob applied for a position with the Sask Wheat Pool. He was hired and became a dedicated employee for 32 years. He took early retirement in 1996 from the Pool to enjoy doing the things that he loved to do. Those years were spent at the hockey rink in the winter, and the golf course in the summer. He worked in his woodshed tireless hours in between and repaired and fixed anything he could get his hands on for his family and friends. Bob eventually came on with the maintenance crew at the Assiniboia Golf Course first as a volunteer, and eventually as a part time work. He loved spending the early mornings tending to the course, and then enjoying a daily round of golf with “the boys”!

Bob really enjoyed wood working in his shop at home. For a while he went on a bird house building kick, turning every scrap of wood he could find into a bird house!!! Marcy used to give him a really hard time building these bird houses, but he put this effort to good use; Bob managed to equip all the fairways at the Assiniboia Golf course with one of these bird houses as the 150 yard marker. Bob’s second big love was hockey. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Junior B Rebel Hockey team. He would take the jerseys home after every game and wash, dry and hang them with pride for the next game. He was very excited to be with the Rebels when they played and won the Keystone Cup.

During their retirement years, Bob and Marcy got busy renovating a house across from the post office for a new business. After the renovations were complete, Marcy and her sister Elaine were excited to open "Grandma's Tea Kettle", a craft store and coffee shop. This provided a great little space for the ladies to sell craft supplies and express their creativity.  Elaine and Marcy enjoyed having customers browse the shelves and stay for coffee and goodies, Bob also enjoyed popping in for a great coffee and something sweet.

Bob and Marcy called Coronach, Rosetown and Assiniboia home during the years they raised a family. Chuck was born in 1964, and Michelle followed soon after in 1965.

Bob will be sadly missed by his children Charles (Johanne) and Michelle Rust (Don Dreger); 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. George’s Roman Catholic Parish Hall, 325 6th Ave E, Assiniboia, Sk.
