EUGENE (GENE) RIZAK

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gene at his home in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Gene was blessed with a free spirit, unending curiosity and a happy life filled with family, friends, travel, sport and laughter. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his six children – John, Anna, Joseph, Susan, Samantha and Joshua; their mother, Claire; six grandchildren – Holly, Cassandra, Addison, Madeline, Jada and Samuel; step-children and grandchildren – Will, Faye, Ethan, Addison, Avery, Ella; Kate, Aaron, Callum; Liz, Frank; Luke; family in Ontario, Canada – Rhonda, Leon; Jaclyn, Ben, Adam, Andrew; Dana, Nikita; David, Wendy, Drew; family in Michigan – Mary; Lisa; Aaron, Erika, Leah, Scarlett, Eliza; and other family – Vaughn, Parviz, Ben and Jane. He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Mary Rizak and his two siblings, Eleanor and Larry. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Gene was a basketball standout turned coach, teacher and mentor. After retiring as Professor Emeritus at the University of Regina in 1993, he became an avid tennis competitor, art collector and writer. He often expressed gratitude for a life that introduced him to wonderful people and places. Gene had requested that no funeral service be held and that his life be celebrated privately. In lieu of flowers, please contribute donations in support of homeless and women’s shelters or local sport. Memories may be shared via therizakfamily@gmail.com.
