With the most profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Diana Lydia McDiarmid (nee Schlitt). Diana passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of February 21st, 2022, at Providence Place in Moose Jaw.

Diana is predeceased by her father, Helmut Schlitt, and survived by her mother, Kaye Nestor, and her sister, Jeannette Schlitt, all of whom she loved deeply.

Diana knew from a young age that she wanted to be a mother. She was incredibly devoted to her children, and later, to her grandchildren. Diana is survived by her three sons, and by her daughter-in-law; John ("Willie") Legare and his wife Riley Legare, Cass Legare, and Cole Legare. She was incredibly proud of her boys (even as adults, we were always her boys).  Anyone who knew Diana knew that she loved her children deeply. Life was not always easy for Diana; she raised her three boys as a single mother, often fulfilling the role of mother and father. Among other things, Diana taught all of her boys how to throw a football (and how not to break a nail!).

Diana is also survived by her grandchildren; Milo Legare, Taylen Hirsch, and Andrew Cantin. Some of the happiest moments in Diana's life were when she was with her children and grandchildren.

Diana had a wild spirit, and an endearing soul. During her brief time, she touched the lives of many. There is an entire generation of people who called her "mom", because she was a mother to more than just her own children.

During her brief stay at Providence Place, she formed close bonds with many of the staff and residents. There was an incredible amount of love and sorrow in Providence Place on the day of her death. Our family is incredibly grateful for the amazing people at Providence Place; we think that our mothers passing to heaven must have been easy, because she was already surrounded by angels.

Diana loved to learn. She was always fascinated by Egypt; later in life she would teach herself to read Egyptian hieroglyphics. She also had an amazing sense of humour and was known to play pranks on anyone she thought she could fool. Does anyone want to see some snake eggs? Her sense of humour, and her love for learning were only surpassed by her love for her family.

A service will be held in Diana's honor, to celebrate her life and passing. The service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday February 28th at Jones Funeral Home in Moose Jaw (474 Hochelaga St W). To view the service please click on the link 10 minutes before 1:30 pm Saskatchewan Time https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9827558167 Due to winter travel considerations, an outdoor ceremony is also being planned for Diana's birthday, June 22nd, 2022, in Moose Jaw at a location yet to be determined.

In living memory of Diana, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd.
