It is with sadness that the family of Robert Charles Maunder announces his passing on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Robert was born in 1943 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and grew up on his parents’ farm near Eyebrow, SK. He was the youngest of the ten children, and the only one of the ten that was born in the hospital. In 1959 when he was sixteen, Robert joined the army for a seven-year stint. He learned to be a cook in the army, specializing in salads. After he was discharged from the army, Robert went on to use his cooking skills for jobs in various work camps in central Canada. Robert travelled extensively, both while he was in the army and afterwards, including Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, and the USA. One of Robert’s trips was with his good friend from Eyebrow. The two of them got a special deal to fly anywhere in the USA, for twenty-one days for $216.00.

On his days off Robert would jump in his camper and head to his brother John’s place at Kingman, Alberta. He would often arrive for a visit without notice and leave without warning. Robert was considered a “faithful friend”, but also a “loner”. However, Robert always showed up to support family and friends, or for a special occasion (coming and going unannounced, of course).

Robert enjoyed collecting antiques, and going to garage sales, auctions, and yard sales, his favourite pastime.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Ada; and his seven brothers: James, John, Kenneth, Roy, Francis, Arthur, and George. Robert is survived by his two sisters, Marion Price and Alice Wells; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Service will be held to honour Robert. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
