MARTENS
Violet Lea Martens, aged 94 years of Tugaske, SK, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6th, 2025.
Vi was born in Olds, AB in 1931 where she lived with her parents on the family farm until she met and married Henry Martens of Eyebrow, SK. After living in a few various locations, such as Saskatoon, SK and Kelowna, BC, they settled in Calgary, AB. They had four children together and continued raising their family there until Henry’s passing in 1969. In 1971, Vi met and married Peter Martens of Tugaske, SK, where they farmed and had a son together to add to their family. After Peter’s passing in 2001, Vi remained living in Tugaske until 2008 when she decided to make the move to Moose Jaw, SK; first residing at The Bentley then lastly, at Points West Living. In 2024, Vi moved to Central Butte Regency Manor in Central Butte, SK where she lived out her remaining days.
Vi loved spending time with her family and her friends and always had a smile and a hug for everyone she met. Seeing and spending time with her grandchildren was very special to her. Vi had many hobbies and interests such as puzzles, knitting, playing games, and watching sporting events, particularly the Toronto Blue Jays. She loved her hobbies, but her favourite one was her flowers and her garden. She had that special touch and talent that was undeniable when it came to her flowers.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Henry Martens (1969) and Peter Martens (2001); her twelve siblings; son, Robert Martens; grandson, Douglas Martens; and granddaughter, Shawna Martens. Violet leaves to mourn, her son, Dave (Linda) Martens of Kelowna, BC; son, Marv (Sandra) Martens of Moose Jaw, SK; daughter, Sharon Myette of Calgary, AB; son, Len (Sherry) of Tugaske, SK; grandchildren: Karl (Andrea) Martens, Christina Martens, Kenneth (Roselyn) Martens, Colleen (Daniel) Van Troyen, Julie (Eric) Martens, Jennifer (Steve) Bignell, Jonathan (Renae) Martens, Chelsey (Adam) Martens, Michelle (Victor) Szigeti, Matthew (Jennifer) Myette, Melissa (Ryan) Myette, Spencer (Jade) Martens, and Marcus Martens; and great-grandchildren: Jerome, Kaylee, Isabella, Alexander, Edward, Alice, Noah, Lucas, Trinity, Brady, Chase, Ryley, Koden, Devon, Micah, Lachlyn, Elena, Raiza, Mia, Cid, Katalina, and Raiden.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place at Tugaske Cemetery.
