Maureen Elizabeth Hanna - March 16,1962 - October 4, 2023
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Maureen Elizabeth Hanna on October 4, 2023, at the Regina General Hospital with her family at her bedside.
Maureen is predeceased by her father Garth and brother Stewart. She leaves behind her son Ryan, who was her world; her mother Liz; brothers Scott (Debbie), Rodney (Tracy), and Darcy; nephews Jamie (Ashley), Christopher (Jill) and Darren (Hannah); nieces Sophia, Sydney, Laura Lee, and Leah (Jordon); great nephew Maverick; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Maureen also leaves behind special friends, Chris Kerber and Lorne Mealing, that she adopted as family.
Maureen was born in Regina on March 16, 1962. Soon after, her parents bought a farm and relocated to Cardross. She became a farm girl. Maureen loved the outdoors and had a toughness as she spent her childhood running around with her four brothers. The farm is where she learned her work ethic and common-sense attitude. Her Mom, Liz, taught her how to bake and cook. If you were lucky enough, Maureen would treat you to a tray of delicious pastries and cookies at Christmas time. Although she loved making sweets, she never ate them.
Maureen wasn't one for self-pity, she stood strong, mentally and physically, she handled it. This set the tone for the rest of her life, whatever came her way, good, bad, or otherwise, she just simply handled it.
Maureen dedicated herself to a career as a customer service specialist in the restaurant industry. “Reenie” as she was known to most was a hard worker and a great conversationalist. Her father Garth gave her the trait of quick wit and a great sense of humour which is what made her so lovable to those she worked with and those who frequented the restaurants she worked at. She loved to laugh and if you could entertain her, you were rewarded with her bright smile, laughter, and that mischievous twinkle in her eye.
In her personal life, Reenie loved to entertain and was famous for her yearly barbecue bashes, Jello shots and impromptu dinner parties. Flowers were her passion, in the summer her beautiful backyard was a great place to sit and have coffee and a visit. Maureen always made time to listen if you needed an ear, give a hug, or drop you off some soup when sick but she was always up for shenanigans. Her loyalty and kindness are only a small part of her amazing personality and those who truly knew her adored her. The most important thing to Maureen was always family. The love she had for her family was the glue that held herself together through thick and thin.
As you mourn her passing, remember that about her and hug your family members, be kind to others and always give her a cheers when you’re out socializing. Remember her laugh and remember her.
