Kathleen (Kay) Joyce Hales (nee Hutchinson). Kathleen passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023 in her 97th year. Born to Leslie and Stella Hutchinson on September 26, 1926, she was the only daughter, and last surviving sibling. Her four brothers were Russ, Allan, Bill and Grant. She is also predeceased by her husband Melville and her daughter and best friend Loraine Ramage. She’s been lovingly survived by Daughters Eilene (Dennis) Sabat and Wendy Hales; Son Norman (Holly) Hales; Son in Law Ross (Francis) Ramage; Sisters in Law Joy and Shirley Hutchinson; Grandchildren James and Michael Ramage, Christopher Sabat and Kelly Marrinan, Naomi Hales, Alysha and Jayda Hales and their spouses and six great-grandsons.

Kay and Mel farmed south of Moose Jaw in the Butress District for over 40 years before retiring to Moose Jaw. Kay was well known at the farmer’s markets and craft sales for her garden and house plants, sewing and crafts (especially the chair cozies). She loved to sew and could find a use for even the smallest scrap of fabric. She was a curler into her 70’s and a lawn and carpet bowler into her 80’s.

She loved curling with her family and travelling with them to their curling events, sitting in the stands crocheting while watching all the good shots. She travelled with her kids to Alaska, every province and 2 territories, and even Mexico! She was happy just to be included in her kid’s adventures, even if sometimes they weren’t quite her cup of tea.

In her later years, she was gifted a feline companion by her son, and he became her best friend. He came with a name, but he looked like a Ginger, so that was his name from then on. Ginger never had a problem finding her lap or laying right beside her, stretching out the length of her back, to keep her warm all night.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Arbor at Westpark Crossing and Dr. Geyer for the care and compassion shown to her.

A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, following a private family internment at Rosedale Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society Box 1658 Station Main Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
