It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the passing of our Mom and Omi, Ursula Gregory (née Winkler) on Thursday, December 21st, 2023. Omi was the glue that held our family together and it is in her passing that we are once again connected. To meet her, know her and love her was incredible for all of us. Ursula was born and raised on a farm just outside of Hannover, Germany, with her family. Her sister fondly remembers sharing a porcelain doll that they received at Christmas that they both cherished deeply. Ursula went to school in Hannover and trained as a seamstress. It was in this vocation that she met our Dad and Grandpa, Charles, in 1954, while he was stationed as part of the Canadian Military. On March 25th, 1955, they married and went on to have their oldest son, Cliff, in Germany. They came to Canada where Dad was stationed in Winnipeg, MB and they had two more children, first Evelyn, and then Bruce. Charles was stationed in Soest, Germany, Winnipeg, MB, Edmonton, AB, Shilo, MB, then back to Soest and finally in Moose Jaw, SK where they both lived the rest of their lives. In 1982, Ursula became Omi when their oldest granddaughter, Jessica, was born and they were blessed again in 1985, when their youngest granddaughter, Katrina, was born. Jessica had the gift of a childhood of being with Omi almost every weekend, where they would bake, garden, and listen to Randy Travis on the record player. Katrina would get to experience that same bond with Omi during the past 20 years, when they spent so much time talking and just being together. There was nothing that Omi wouldn’t do for either of her girls. This gift of love was extended as great-grandchildren arrived, especially with Sophia. Ursula and Bruce had a beautiful relationship and she trusted him implicitly, so much so that she knew he would always be there for a visit. Ursula and Cliff, as well as Evelyn, shared so many years together, that the love they had ran deep. She adored us all in a way that left no doubt of her love. Her death will leave a mark that will change us all deeply.

Those waiting for her on the other side are her beloved parents, Herrmann and Luzie Winkler; brother, Walter Winkler; dearest daughter-in-law, Molly Gregory; and of course her husband, who has been waiting for her for over 14 years, Charles (Chuck) Gregory. Left to mourn in her absence are her sister, Betty Asche and brother, Adolf Winkler, and their families; children: Cliff (Sonia) Gregory, Evelyn Southers, and Bruce Gregory; her treasured granddaughters, Jessica (Marcus) Dewald and Katrina Gregory; and finally, her little ones, her great-grandchildren: Sophia and Echo Gregory and Madalyn, Brynlee, and Carter Dewald.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Moose Jaw Extendicare for showing Omi love and compassion in her time there.

We will have a service in the summer, to celebrate her great life during her most favourite season.

I’m gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen
” – Randy Travis
