EDWARD GREGGAINS (ED)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward George Greggains on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at the age of 74 years.

Ed was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on April 6th, 1951. He grew up on the family farm in Mortlach, SK. It was there that he learned the value of hard work and where he began to develop his passion for carpentry, baking, and gardening.

Ed continued to perfect those skills throughout his career as a carpenter. He dabbled with different projects at work and at home, including renovations, building cabinets, roofing, and being a chef.

Ed was a devoted father who was determined to pass these same skills to his 7 children. He would take them along to learn and assist with his side projects, have them help plant and weed the large garden, and taught them how to create a delicious meal from what was on hand. His home was a community hotspot for a good meal and a stern talk.

Ed was known for his passion in what he did with his hands but also his opinions. With his opinion came a helping hand and great advice. He continued to cheer on, protect, and support his children as they grew into adulthood. He became a proud grandpa in April 2000 and currently has 24 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He loved to bake for them, take them shopping, and watch them play.

When Ed retired, he would spend time building and assisting his family with renovations and gardening. He looked forward to his yearly trips to Cape Breton digging up clams and assimilating to the East Coast lifestyle. Ed also enjoyed exploring small town Saskatchewan and brushing up on its history. His favourite past time was escaping in a good book or drawing up plans for the next project.

Ed was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020. He faced his diagnosis like any hurdle in a project, with strength, determination, and hope. He lived each day to the fullest and courageously fought for 5 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Richard Greggains; and siblings: Dianne, Richard, and Bill Greggains. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Dolly and Rosemary; and cherished by his children: Lorry Sinclair and her children Landon, Brody, Aiden and grandchild Elsie-May; Tyrel Greggains; Shyler (Jessica) Greggains and their children Jase and Avery; Amy (Mike) Waiman and their child Lexi; Rosy Knutson and her children Kaylen, Brydan, Daynin, and Axton; Dylan (Lacey) Greggains and their children Brandon, Cameron, Shayndel, Trinaty, Leyla, Kali, Jaxon, Tyson and Flynt; Ryan (Justine) Greggains and their children Clark, Kayson, and Chloe; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, as well as the many nurses that cared for him throughout his journey.

In keeping with Ed’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
