It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of a beautiful unforgettable soul, Brady Grasdal. On Saturday December 16th, 2023, aged 21 years of Moose Jaw, SK, he passed away after a terrible, terrible accident on a trip he was having so much fun on.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Harvey Smith; and great-grandparents: Winnie & Ted Bradley, Conrad & Muriel Grasdal, Ann & Ted Smith, and Stan & Audrey Hiron. He left behind a loving mother, Amber Grasdal; father, Graham Grasdal; brother, Austin Grasdal (Kristen & the boys Jayden, Rowen, Ryder, Daxon); his first nephew, Grayson; grandparents: Joan & Terry Grasdal, and Barb Smith (Russ); aunties: Tanya Ruckaber (Kelly), Lori Marzolf (Bob), Jenny Smith (Alex), and Narinda Maree (Bryan & Erika); as well as many cousins, countless friends, and of course Brady’s “Boys”.
Brady was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on January 23rd, 2002. From the moment he came into this world we were blessed with a smile that could light up the sky. To know Brady was to love him. Brady loved hockey at a very young age, there wasn’t a time he wasn’t carrying a hockey stick around and couldn’t wait to get on the ice, and that is exactly what he did. Brady started skating when he was 2 and was on the ice right up until the day before he left on his trip.
On and off the ice, Brady had a zest for life, a passion for hockey, and a love for everyone who was a part of his journey. Whether you knew him as family, friend, coach, or teammate, you knew his heart was gold. Brady lived his life to the fullest, enjoying each moment and person that crossed his path, one couldn’t resist to smile and engage with Brady. Which is what happened when Brady walked into his Billet family’s homes and soon became part of their family. Brady’s billets were always happy and eager to welcome him into their homes and family, little did they know the profound impact they would have on his life, hopes and future.
During his hockey journey Brady gave back to the community in Portage La Prairie & Oakville with the school board working with children. When returning to Moose Jaw he shifted his sights from player to coach and was quickly becoming a great leader. He was a one-of-a-kind role model, with an amazing gift at connecting with the boys. The impact and connections he created with the team will never be forgotten. As in his words, what he was looking forward to this year was “Having team success and watching each player develop and strive to be the best they can be both on and off the ice.”
Brady will be missed and remembered for his love for life. His love he shared with his friends and family if you knew him you knew it. His infectious smile and his big heart. He meant the world to a lot of people. He has taken a big piece of our hearts with him.
We may never understand why you were taken too soon “Grazzy” but know your spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Brady, you will always be our baby boy, we love you more than you will ever know.
A Celebration of Brady’s Life will be held on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Alliance Church, 14 Neslia Place, Moose Jaw, SK with Pastor Marvin Seaborg officiating.
