Sylvia Glydon (fondly called Granny G) passed away peacefully at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility on November 26, 2021. She was born in Romford Essex, England on November 11, 1923. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Wes, parents George and Violet (Hickmott) Colgate, sister Doll (John) Browne, and niece Pat Burton. Left to mourn her loss are her son Bryan (Sheila) and daughter Bernice; grandchildren Shaun (Tara) and Jodie (Martin); great-grandchildren, Nikita, Zach, Kieran, Emily, Emma; nephews, nieces, and friends. Sylvia worked in a munitions factory during WWII. She married Wes and came to Canada in 1944, where she became a homemaker. She had to learn to cook when she came over as her mother couldn’t chance any food being ruined as it was rationed in England. She was baking bread one day when a neighbour (Don Saigeon) came for a visit. She gave him a freshly baked loaf of bread when he left. Years later he told her he took it home and used it for a door stop. It was not easy for a city girl to become a farmer’s wife; in those days it was growing and preserving just about all your own food, but she learned. Her favourite thing was baking, and after the bread incident, she became very good at it. There was seldom a day when she didn’t have a plate of delicious goodies to offer her company. She belonged to Royal Purple and took up bowling when the lanes were built in town. She very much enjoyed this activity and brought home many trophies. Sylvia loved to have a good time and became quite famous for her singing and dancing rendition of “Knees Up Mother Brown”, which was frequently delivered from tabletop. If you saw the performance, you wouldn’t forget it. There are too many stories to tell, but everyone knew she was fun to be around. There will be a celebration of life announced at a later date. Donations in Sylvia’s memory can be made to Prairie Winds Estate, Box10, Herbert SK, S0H 2A0. In living memory of Sylvia, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.jonesparkview.com (Obituaries). Kelly Scott, Funeral Director.
