JERRY WILLIAM FUNK

Jerry William Funk aged 85 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan peacefully passed away August 10, 2021, at Providence Place, surrounded by family. Jerry was born September 9, 1935, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of four children and spent his childhood in Swift Current. The family moved to Moose Jaw when Jerry was thirteen. He attended St. Louis College in Moose Jaw where he also met the love of his life, Loretta Oakley. They were married in December 1953 and raised one daughter, Jackie. Jerry obtained his Plumber-Pipefitter Journeyman certificate in 1960. His work took him many places throughout the years, from Moose Jaw to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to Honolulu, Hawaii. Building homes with attention to detail and design was a passion of Jerry’s. Jerry and Loretta spent time in their vacation home on Mayne Island, British Columbia where summer visits from family were filled with fun and adventure. Jerry and Loretta first went on vacation to Honolulu in 1973 and never missed a winter spent in the Hawaiian Islands after that. After Loretta’s passing in 1989, Jerry made Honolulu, Hawaii his home. He lived on a sailboat in the Ala Wai Harbour on Waikiki Beach, until moving to his property on the Big Island of Hawaii. Jerry enjoyed island life, the ocean and the building and construction projects he worked on in the islands. Family would holiday in Hawaii often, and eventually all his grandsons and great grandchildren would spend Christmas and extended vacations at the Big Island property. Jerry returned to Moose Jaw in January 2018 and lived at Providence Place until his passing. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Loretta; parents, Pete and Rose; brother, Chuck; and brother-in-law and best friend Helmer Oakley. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Jackie Nichols (Trevor Fishley); grandsons, Shae (Tamra) Nichols and Jerrod (Kirsten) Nichols; great-grandchildren Olivia, Kael and Ava; and Mila and Tosh; sisters Jeanette and Yvonne; sisters-in-law Shirley Funk and Emily Oakley, as well as numerous other family members and friends. In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, a private family interment will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jerry’s name may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, PO Box 1658, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan S6H 7K7. In living memory of Jerry, a memorial tree planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services.
