FULFORD

Francis Bruce Fulford of Moose Jaw, SK., passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 81 years of age. Francis was born on June 15, 1943, in Ottawa Ontario to parents George Fulford (deceased 1988) and Ghislaine Fulford (Nee Labonte, deceased 1989). He had three siblings– Doreen Doede (deceased 2010), Celine Fulford (Kerry), Marc Fulford (Carol).

Bruce’s father, George, was an Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the family moved often (Ottawa, Moncton NB, Toronto ON, France, Halifax NS). Bruce finished high school in Halifax then attended Dalhousie University, Faculty of Engineering. After one year at Dalhousie, George was transferred to Toronto and the family followed. Bruce then attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.

In Toronto, Bruce worked for many years at J D Barnes and Assoc. where he enjoyed his work and often travelled in Northern Ontario, even in winter. He obtained his Professional Engineer certificate and Ontario Land Surveyor designation while at the company.

After many years in Toronto, Bruce began his international adventure. He joined an engineering firm in Saudi Arabia where he lived and worked for a number of years. Through this period, he worked at different locations and travelled extensively around the world. On one such trip he met Nitaya in Thailand. After returning to Toronto, Bruce and Nitaya married on April 25, 1987. Soon thereafter Tong, Toe, Ning and Tum joined them in Toronto, and they became the family Bruce enjoyed so much.

In the early 1990’s, Bruce was offered a teaching position with Saskatchewan Polytechnic at the Moose Jaw campus. Many years earlier, when Bruce was a University of Toronto student, he worked one summer at the RCAF Moose Jaw base for an engineering firm, upgrading the runway. It was this fond memory of Moose Jaw that was instrumental in his return to the city. He enjoyed many years teaching engineering courses at the campus.

Once the family was established in Moose Jaw, Nitaya and Bruce founded Nit’s Thai Food Restaurant on Main Street. This business partnership, Nitaya’s culinary expertise and restaurant skills together with Bruce’s financial management, was very successful with Nit’s restaurant becoming a family run intergenerational enterprise.

Bruce happily enjoyed becoming a grand-father and great grand-father. On retirement, Nitaya and Bruce returned to Thailand each winter to their home located in a small town on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
