FORER, Donald L. (1932-2021) passed peacefully on May 24, 2021, in his 90th year in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan after a brief stay in palliative care. He lived life to the fullest, shared his love, and was loved in return. Exuberant, energetic, loving, caring and fun, he was a wonderful man who left a permanent mark etched forever in our hearts and will be deeply missed. Don was born in Avonlea, SK to a family of seven children. He was known as a helpful, tender hearted people person, even as a youngster. As a teen, he helped out his dad at the Massey Ferguson dealership as well as being an avid hockey player with his brothers as a forward for the Avonlea Arrows. Duties at home prevented him from accepting an invitation to attend the College of Notre Dame. These early experiences influenced Don to continue to be passionate about playing and coaching both baseball and hockey. He contributed to provincial baseball championships with his teammates and coaching his sons' teams to provincial finals. He followed in the footsteps of his entrepreneurial parents, joining his brothers Remo and Harold in 1952 in operating a trucking company which was sold after a tragic accident claimed Harold's life. He married Aline Boucher (1958-1981) and relocated to Assiniboia, SK where they raised four children. During this time, Don acquired another trucking company "Freightways" which he also eventually sold. In 1970, he joined Manulife and began a long career in Insurance and Investment Planning, building up his AQ Investment Firm by traveling throughout the prairies, with many clients becoming lifelong friends. While living in Assiniboia, Don became active in politics and served on many campaigns at the provincial and federal levels. Don married Mabel Ottenbreit (Turberfield) in 1985, becoming a stepfather to three young daughters, establishing their family in Moose Jaw. They worked together in business, enjoyed travel and had a loving home that welcomed all family and friends until Mabel’s passing in 1994. Don married Anne Kuc (1995-2011). Don’s many community contributions to Moose Jaw and surrounding area flourished during all the years he resided there. He was grateful for the opportunity to have a significant impact on many diverse and wonderful organizations while rarely missing a WHL Moose Jaw Warriors’ game and enjoying many cultural events. In his later years, Don happily spent time and traveled with Helen Fauchon, who was a very trusted companion. Born with a willingness and desire to lead, contribution to community was essential to Don. He lived by the saying “As you grow older, you will discover you have two hands, one for helping yourself, and another for helping others.” Notable leadership roles included the following Board of Directors’ positions: Knights of Columbus, Moose Jaw Warriors, Providence Place Foundation, and Cayer Foundation. He was a long-time Rotary Club member where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for Exceptional Support. He also spent several years as the President of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association as well as President of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, and immensely enjoyed being a member of St. Joseph’s choir. He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith. Family was the pivotal essence to Don’s life. He was proud and honoured to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to our large family. His love of connecting with siblings, nieces and nephews never waned. He prioritized keeping in touch and was always keenly interested in those he visited with. His far-reaching impact on all he met led to many deep friendships. For him, life was a joyful journey to be fully experienced. His infectious laugh as well as his joy for life and others could not be contained. He was beloved and will be tremendously missed. He was predeceased by his parents Monica and Henry Forer; his brothers Joseph (Harold) and Richard; his sisters-in-law Bernadette and RuthAnne; brothers-in-law John and Dennis; wife Mabel; son-in-law Andrew; and grandsons Justin and Cai. He is survived by his children, Paul (Jennie), Colette (Steve), Cam (Morai), Donald Jr., Nicole, Carmelle, and Carrie (Anthony); his grandchildren Jana, Brooke, Daniel, Akaya, Miles, Braden, Joel, Jason, Tyler, Tyson, Graeme, Thomas, Sadie, Ivy, and Rhys; brother Remo (Louise); sisters Mary, Ada, and Rita (Conrad); brother-in-law Lawrence; his best friend of 12 years, Helen Fauchon, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and the mother of his children Aline. A celebration of Don’s life will be announced for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Don’s name.
