Doreen Cobbe

Doreen (Dean) Cobbe was born January 3, 1935 and was the only child of Stan and Janie Tait.  She was baptized at Blue Hill United Church.  Her parents Stan and Janie farmed and ranched on NW 20-13-25 and SW 29-13-25, 10 miles south-west of Briercrest in the Blue Hill District.   Along with farming and ranching, Dean’s father Stan, also was the local veterinarian, horse trader and was a pickup man (along with Bill Gomersall) at all the local rodeos.  This sparked Dean’s passion and love for animals at an early age, especially horses.  As Dean got older she was a test pilot for most of the horses her father brought home.  During Dean’s childhood, she loved travelling with her parents and Bill and Irene Gomersall’s family to all the rodeos.  Dean met H.W. (Lefty) Macdiarmid at Gomersall’s in the early 1950’s.  They were married on June 18, 1953.  They had two children, Janice (1954) and Marty (1961).  Lefty and Dean moved around working on ranches and PFRA community pastures in the areas of Briercrest, Crestwynd, Mayberry and Val Marie.  Dean was actually one of the first women to ride part-time for a PFRA community pasture (Val Marie pasture).  Dean’s passion was horses and barrel racing.  She was one of the founding members of the SSRR Gymkhana Club in 1958 and a founding member of the Saskatchewan Girls Barrel Racing Assoc. (SGBRA, later changed to the SBRA).  In 1964 they moved back to take over the Macdiarmid ranch in Crestwynd, where they ranched, rodeoed and raised quarter horses until Lefty passed away on October 24, 1987.  Dean continued to live on the ranch at Crestwynd for another two years until she met Rae Cobbe and moved to Central Butte.  Rae and Dean were married in August of 1992 and retired from managing Grainland PFRA community pasture at Central Butte.  They continued to raise cattle and horses in the Central Butte area before eventually moving to Mortlach in 2003.  Rae and Dean enjoyed going to horse shows, rodeos and their annual holiday at Agribition in Regina.  Dean was a member of the Blue Hill United Church and the Mortlach UCW.  After Rae’s passing in 2009, Dean continued to stay at Mortlach until her failing health took her to Moose Jaw in the fall of 2019. Dean is survived by her children Janice (Lloyd) Turner and Marty (Joyce) Macdiarmid.  Grandchildren Jolyn (Frank McGibbon) Forman, Houston (Sara) Forman, Chelsea (Jamie) Blaczczok, Tyler Macdiarmid and Great Grandchildren Phoenix Blaczczok, Julia Forman, Makenna Blaczczok and Hayden Forman.  A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday November 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the  Jones – Parkview Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W., Moose Jaw.
