It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Geraldine Baker. Geraldine died unexpectedly at Health Sciences Centre on September 3, 2023, at the age of 84. She was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and true friend. Geraldine (nee Maier) was the eldest daughter, born to Elizabeth (nee Schuett) and Joseph Maier in Briercrest, Saskatchewan. Geraldine grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where she met the love of her life, Gerald Baker at the age of 17. She jumped into the front seat of Gerry’s car and won his heart for the next 67 years. What a ride they had! Together the two were unstoppable. Raising three beautiful, talented, and successful daughters, Joann, Judy (Michael) Janice (Ron). Countless hours were spent poolside, and several sacrifices were made so their daughters could reach provincial, national, and Olympic goals and dreams. Geraldine’s second true love was spending the winters in Arizona with her grandsons, Ryan (Jessica), Sean (Rhiannon) and Troy (Stephanie). Geraldine was surrounded by countless friends in El Mirage Park, too many to name in fear we miss someone. Her summers were spent in Winnipeg, Manitoba where her grandsons, Taylor (AIanna), Christian (Brooke), Wyatt and Reese (Britney), kept her busy with grand-parenting duties. Geraldine taught her grandsons the joy of cards and the love of nature. Many summers were spent camping, and Geraldine with her quick wit and sharp tongue, had her grandsons laughing and sharing videos across the continent, with the headliner, “look what Grammie did now”? Throughout Geraldine’s life she wore many hats, her love for gardening, card playing, crafting, cooking, baking and of course, being crowned the “Queen of Clean.” She taught her girls valuable life lessons such as how to vacuum yourself out of a room. A special thank you to mom’s oldest and dearest friend, Kathy Slongo. Kathy taught us about true friendship, and Italian cuisine, often bringing roasters of lasagna and spaghetti to the hungry athletes, across the street. Geraldine will be deeply missed by her great-grandchildren, grandsons, her sister Joan and Rick Kolebaba, brother Dale Maier, nieces, nephews, Scott Anderson, Greg Franklin and most deeply her daughters and loving and devoted husband Gerald Baker. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
