Morales drives in two as Jays edge Pirates 2-1 for first win in spring training

BRADENTON, Fla. — Kendrys Morales drove in a pair of runs as the Blue Jays beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Wednesday, giving Toronto its first win in spring training.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Kendrys Morales drove in a pair of runs as the Blue Jays beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Wednesday, giving Toronto its first win in spring training.

Morales drove in Kevin Pillar with a single in the top of the third inning, then put the Blue Jays up 2-1 in the top of the fifth with an RBI double that scored Teoscar Hernandez.

Pittsburgh's Jason Martin had opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off Toronto starter Matt Shoemaker.

Sam Gaviglio pitched a scoreless third and fourth inning to pick up the win for Toronto (1-3). Zach Jackson pitched a hitless ninth for the save.

Kyle Crick was tagged with the loss for Pittsburgh (3-2).

The Blue Jays are scheduled to host Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon in Dunedin, Fla.
