DRESDEN, Germany — Five-time Olympic medallist Charles Hamelin added to his trophy case with a silver medal on Saturday at a short-track speedskating World Cup.

Fellow Canadians Kim Boutin and Charle Cournoyer also took second place in their respective events.

Hamelin, who has three Olympic gold medals, finished second on Saturday in the 1,500-metre distance, clocking in at 2 minutes 15.155 seconds. South Korea's Kim Gun Woo (2:15.123) and Lim Hyo Jun (2: 15.180) rounded out the podium.

"It felt super good to have been on the podium today," said Hamelin, the reigning world champion. "We started the season a bit late with our new coach, but it's starting to pay off.

"We continue to work hard, and with these results and those from next weekend, our confidence will continue to grow. I will have to battle hard to defend my World Championship title, but I think that I will be ready."

Boutin earned silver in the women's 1,500 in 2:23.140 seconds, 64 thousandths of a second behind South Korea's Kim Ji Yoo (2: 23.076). Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands (2:23.200) was third.

Boutin has three Olympic medals from last year's Games in Pyeongchang — a silver in the 1,000, and bronze in the 500 and 1,500 — and was Canada's flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

"I noticed that all of the best girls were up at the front and we weren't skating very fast," Boutin said. "I used that as an opportunity to conserve my energy and put myself in a good position so that I could finish strong in the end."

Cournoyer finished second in the men's 1,000 with a time of 1:25.412.

In other Canadian results, Alyson Charles finished fourth in the women's 1,000 and Steven Dubois was fourth in the men's 1,500.
